Puerto Rico 2025 - After two years it was great to be back in Puerto Rico. The nine member team that went on 2023
grew to a 13 member team in 2025 and the joy of helping and sharing with the churches in Mayaguez and Ponce was a great delight for all.
The group included: Michael Wilhusen from Missouri; Dave and Shawn Schneeberger, Leon and Lori Dawkins and Jerry Schmidt from Fergus Falls, MN;
Jay and Betty Johnson, Tammy Nelson, Kerry and Julie Zimmerman and Pastor and Deb Aufdenkamp from Elbow Lake, MN.
Ashley Lehr was our main contact on the island and she was able to spend a great deal of time with us as we
traveled back and forth between the mission churches.
In Mayaguez we built a new three tiered worship platform and stained the Pulpit in the church.
Changed locks on the doors, hung ceiling fans, cleaned out the laundry room, power washed all the exterior walks and stairs,
trimmed and cleared many overgrown branches and bushes around the property.
In Ponce we did some extensive and deep cleaning of the facility, tore down and rebuilt a metal dividing wall ,
built a rock climbing wall, sanded and stained 7 picnic tables, repaired some leaky plumbing, and moved some exercise equipment around.
At both parishes we had time to meet with and share meals with some of the parishioners after worship.
To be sure it was not all work as we were able to go to a bio-luminescent bay, toured an old coffee plantation,
AND cheered for the Mayaguez Indigos, a winter league baseball team. We also enjoyed the waterfalls and the beaches the island had to offer.
Looking forward to going again? INDEED
